Dark clouds gathered over Naivasha, but nothing could dampen the spirit of Uncle Joe’s Foundation and the local youth who rallied to cook for their community.

As raindrops tapped rhythmically on makeshift tarps, young volunteers from Naivasha’s estates laughed while chopping vegetables, their hands moving in sync to transform simple ingredients into a feast.

What could have been a washout became a dance of resilience—umbrellas propped over stoves, steam rising defiantly against the downpour, and the promise of warmth filling the air.
At the heart of it all: golden shepherd’s pie, layered with spiced minced meat, garden-fresh peas, and clouds of mashed potatoes—a comforting homage to home-cooked generosity. Volunteers weaved through 100 eager children, balancing plates piled high as rain-soaked faces lit up with every bite. “It tastes like sunshine!” beamed 4-year-old Kip, wiping rain from his cheeks as he scraped his plate clean.

The sound of rain mingled with chatter and contented sighs, proving joy needs no clear sky.

In that drenched field, we witnessed magic: rain wasn’t a barrier, but a backdrop to unity. Full bellies and shared smiles turned a stormy afternoon into a testament to Naivasha’s spirit.

To everyone who braved the weather to serve or savor—you turned drops into delight. Help us create more rainy-day miracles by supporting our next cookout.
“Rain or shine, no child should hunger.”
